The 17th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence
Riva del Garda, Italy / Aug 28th - Sept 1st

Systems Demonstrations

The 17th European Conference in Artificial Intelligence (ECAI06) invites demonstrations of state-of-the-art AI implementations. The aim is to provide AI researchers with an opportunity to show their research in action, but also to make their research accessible to other AI researchers, to the broader scientific community, to industry, and to the public at large.

The systems demonstrations event is an opportunity for live interactive demonstrations with this audience in a relaxed social setting. We invite applications for demonstrations from both commercial organizations and research groups. We encourage the presentation of research prototypes, interesting mature systems and commercial products.

Commercial organizations are encouraged to present AI system of interests for researchers and for media and general public. This program will be part of a poster and demonstration session one evening during the conference, but we also plan to open it for the general public and media on an additional evening occasion.

We especially hope that authors of papers accepted for presentation at the conference technical program and at the workshops will be able to demonstrate their research. To present a system demonstration, however, the authors must still submit a proposal conforming to the requirements by the demonstration program deadline.

Demonstration submissions will be evaluated on the basis of their innovation, relevance, scientific contribution, usability, as well as potential logistical constraints. Demonstrations that can be used by the audience and/or that interact with the audience are particularly encouraged.

Internet access will be provided, but ECAI cannot guarantee the availability of any computer equipment. Presenters are encouraged to bring laptops for giving demonstrations. Demos should be brief so that they can be shown repeatedly during the session. Space will be available for creating environmental settings as needed by the presenters.

Requirements for submissions

Submissions will consist of:

  • A 150-word summary of the demonstration in plain text. Please include title, demonstrator names, and affiliation(s). This summary will be used to compile a program for the demonstrations.
  • A two-page summary of the technical content of the demo, to be distributed at the conference.
  • A detailed description of hardware and software requirements, such as space, site set ups, power supplies. Demonstrators are encouraged to be flexible in their requirements (possibly with different demos for different logistical situations). Please state what you can bring yourself and what you absolutely must have provided. Each demonstration will be assigned a table in the exhibition area.
  • A URL for a demo storyboard. A demo storyboard would consist of 6 images or power-point slides depicting the various stages of the demo, e.g., 6 screen-shots from a software demo.

Important dates

All proposals should be submitted by electronic mail to ecai2006-demo@itc.it in PDF no later than April 20, 2006.

Submitters will be notified of the committee's decision no later than May 10, 2006.
